The Diamond DA 40 F is a four-seat, gasoline-powered member of the DA40 family certificated under EASA Type Certificate Data Sheet A.022.
The F model combines the composite DA40 airframe with a carbureted Lycoming engine and a fixed-pitch propeller installation, distinguishing it from both the standard fuel-injected DA40 configuration and the diesel DA40 D.

Diamond Aircraft DA 40 F history and development
EASA added the DA 40 F as a separate model within the DA 40 type in 2005. Certification records identify the model-specific design change VÄM 40-002.
The DA 40 F retained the four-seat composite low-wing architecture, fixed tricycle landing gear and T-tail of the DA40 family while using a different engine and propeller installation.
Diamond Aircraft DA 40 F fuel capacity
The standard DA 40 F fuel system holds 41.2 U.S. gallons total / 40.2 gallons usable.
The approved long-range fuel system increases capacity to 51 U.S. gallons total / 50 gallons usable. EASA certification data specify approved aviation gasoline including AVGAS 100LL.
Diamond Aircraft DA 40 F configurations and applicability
Normal-category DA 40 F
Applicability: DA 40 F configuration covered by EASA TCDS A.022 and Diamond AFM Doc. No. 6.01.02-E.
| Maximum takeoff weight | 2,535 lb |
|---|---|
| Maximum landing weight | 2,535 lb |

Utility-category DA 40 F
Applicability: Utility-category operation where approved by the applicable aircraft documentation.
| Maximum takeoff weight | 2,161 lb |
|---|
Utility-category limitations differ from normal-category limitations and must be checked in the applicable AFM.
Diamond Aircraft DA 40 F model applicability and configuration
The DA 40 F has model-specific engine, propeller and fuel data and should not be treated as interchangeable with the DA40, DA40 D or DA40 NG.
Optional design changes can alter baggage, propeller and operating applicability. Always verify the aircraft's current approved AFM, serial number, installed equipment and modifications.
Diamond Aircraft DA 40 F weight and balance
EASA TCDS A.022 specifies a 2,535 lb maximum takeoff weight and 2,535 lb maximum landing weight for the normal-category DA 40 F configuration.
Utility-category maximum takeoff weight is 2,161 lb, so category applicability is an important part of loading evaluation.
The standard baggage compartment behind the rear seats is limited to approximately 66 lb. Separate limits apply to the baggage tube and to aircraft equipped with the approved baggage extension.
WBcalc does not currently provide a DA 40 F calculator. Use weight-and-balance data from the approved documentation applicable to the individual aircraft.
Diamond Aircraft DA 40 F frequently asked questions
What engine does the Diamond DA40 F use?
The DA 40 F uses the Lycoming O-360-A4M, a carbureted, normally aspirated four-cylinder piston engine.
How much horsepower does the DA40 F have?
The Diamond DA 40 F flight manual specifies 180 hp at 2,700 rpm.
What is the maximum takeoff weight of the DA40 F?
EASA TCDS A.022 lists 2,535 lb for normal-category operation and 2,161 lb for utility-category operation.
How much usable fuel does the DA40 F carry?
The standard system provides 40.2 U.S. gallons usable, while the approved long-range configuration provides 50 U.S. gallons usable.
Is the DA40 F the same as the DA40 D?
No. The DA 40 F uses a Lycoming gasoline engine, while the DA 40 D is a separately certificated diesel-powered model with different fuel and operating limitations.
